Founder’s Story
Clear skies provide spectacular panoramic view of fall leave and the snow-capped peaks of the Bighorn Mountains. The crisp air and vibrant scenery sets the stage for a guy’s climbing trip. Two among them are long-time friends and climbers Benjit Hull and Kimmo Nissinen.
Benjit and Kimmo took their passion for climbing and applied those skills to build the foundation for what would become TAK Materials founded in 2016. The concentration and strategy it takes to scale a rock face; planning each movement carefully and solving the physical and mental puzzle the wilderness provides, served as the backdrop for TAK’s inception. During that climbing trip to Ten Sleep Wyoming in the fall of 2015, Benjit brought up the idea of filling the void in the industry for premium quality affordable roofing underlayment with the wet PNW winters in mind.
Their innate sense of adventure and passion for the excitement of tackling challenging routes and tough environments made Benjit and Kimmo perfect for developing products that needed to be both durable and reliable. The creative process mirrored their hobby; just like a climbing route, they enjoyed figuring out the most effective and efficient way to bring this vision to reality.
